Between the ages of 50 to 70, some men report symptoms such as erectile dysfunction (failure to achieve an erection), general tiredness, mood changes, night sweats and sometimes palpitations. This is a natural condition and it needs to be looked into thoroughly. Most of the conditions that many men associate with old age are actually symptoms of what is known as 'andropause.'

Partial Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male is a normal part of aging, although for some men, it is accompanied by a gradual and undesired decline in their sexuality, mood and overall energy. Sometimes it can even expose men to more serious health risks. Studies show that the decline in testosterone during andropause can actually put one at risk for other health problems like heart disease and weak bones.

The symptoms of andropause male menopause: * Irritable Male Syndrome * Weight gain * Sleep apnea * Memory loss * Diminished libido * Hair Loss * Erectile dysfunction * Hot Flashes * Muscle loss * Depression * Fatigue Symptoms such as declination of levels of virility and energy accompanied by easily being exhausted, rapid mood sways and palpitations appear. Most men report their erectile dysfunction as the most notable event during andropause. Palpitations are due to the decrease of the testosterone level caused by over reaction of the autonomic system. It must be noted that it is natural for men who are suffering from andropause. Formerly active men who used to be directed to their careers and power enhancement suddenly become close to family and their friends. However, there are some who preferred to find a new set up on their lifestyle which will turn them from the confusion and depression of andropause period.

In many instances, testosterone replacement in men with andropause can be highly effective and beneficial. In various clinical studies, very good responses to testosterone have been reported for men with low-testosterone and they include: * Improvement in mood and sense of well-being * Increased mental and physical energy * Improved libido and sexual performance * An increase in lean body mass, a decline in fat mass Testosterone can be administered in several ways. Oral testosterone capsules and lozenges are synthetic testosterone and appear to be the least effective. Testosterone injections, also synthetic, appear to be more effective, but may be painful, because the hormone must be injected directly into a muscle. Transdermal patches are worn on the skin and many people find them uncomfortable.

A natural testosterone gel which is applied directly to the skin was approved for use by the FDA in 2000 and appears to be very effective as an andropause treatment. Lifestyle changes can alleviate some of the symptoms associated with andropause.
